I chose the Royal Institute of Colombo (RIC) in 2007 to pursue the Bachelor of Laws degree of the University of London. I completed my LLB in 2010 with First Class Honours, and two gold medals.
I gained admission to the University of Cambridge in 2011, at which I obtained the Master of Laws (LLM) degree with a Starred First Class, for which I received the Jesuan and Glanville Williams awards from Jesus College, Cambridge.
I was called to the Bar in 2012, and practiced as a junior Counsel to Mr. Padma Bandara, President’s Counsel. I once again left for Cambridge in 2015 to pursue my Doctorate in Law at the University of Cambridge on a Cambridge Trust Scholarship, which I completed in 2018 in the field of pharmaceutical patents and international trade law. During this period, I also supervised the course on Intellectual Property Law for the 2nd Year TRIPOS students (undergraduate laws) at the University of Cambridge. At the same time, I served in the academic panel of RIC teaching Intellectual Property, Equity, and trusts & Jurisprudence and legal theory.
Upon the completion of my PhD, I returned to Sri Lanka and joined the Chamber of Mr. Sanjeeva Jayawardena, President’s Counsel, where I continue to practice as a junior Counsel in the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka.
