RIC Deakin Engineering students visited the Sobadhanavi Combined Cycle Power Station in Kerawalapitiya today as part of their industrial exposure and practical learning activities. The group included undergraduate students from Electrical and Renewable Energy Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering programs.

During the visit, students had the opportunity to observe the full operational workflow of a modern combined cycle power plant. They were guided through key areas such as the gas turbine unit, steam turbine system, heat recovery steam generator (HRSG), control room operations, and the plant’s integrated monitoring and safety mechanisms.

The visit helped students connect their theoretical knowledge with real-world applications, especially in areas such as power generation technologies, energy efficiency, thermal systems, automation, and grid integration. Engineers and technical officers at the facility provided insights into innovations in combined cycle operation, environmental considerations, and Sri Lanka’s evolving energy landscape.

This industry visit served as an invaluable learning experience, strengthening students’ understanding of large-scale power plant operations and enhancing their readiness for future careers in the energy and engineering sectors.
