Law Student Association (LSARIC)

Established in 2018, the Law Students Association of RIC (LSARIC) is a law society run by students elected to represent the undergraduate law students of Royal Institute of Colombo (RIC). The Law Student Association assists and supports law students both academically and professionally and initiates social and academic events within RIC. The Association works to provide opportunities for its law student populace in mooting, debating, legal writing and research, academic and career development.

 

RIC Rotaract Club

The Rotaract Club of RIC is an established Chartered Club of the Rotaract International District 3220, Sri Lanka and Maldives. It was established under the patronage of the Rotaract Club of Colombo East. The Rotaract movement is dedicated to the process of developing leadership and professional skills of the youth. The Rotaract Club of RIC has members, ages ranging from 18-24 who are committed to achieving the goals of Rotary.

The Rotary and its members believe that it is our shared responsibility to find solutions to the world’s persistent issues and to take action against them. The members of rotary work to promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water, sanitation, and hygiene, save mothers and children, support education, grow local economies and protect the environment. Rotary is dedicated to causes that build international relationships, improve lives, and create a better world to support our peace efforts and end polio forever. Inspired by Rotary, we are devoted to find sustainable solutions to current issues the world and our country faces.

 

RIC Social Science Society (SSS)

The RIC SSS is the official student representative of Social Sciences students at RIC. It consists of individuals who wish to bring forth an enriching and well-rounded Social Sciences experience to their fellow students.

 

Religious / Cultural Societies

The religious and cultural societies of RIC comprise of RIC Buddhist Society, RIC Christian Society, RIC Hindu Society and RIC Islam Society. These clubs work closely in adherence to any nondiscrimination policy, thereby promoting mutual harmony. Students irrespective of their religious beliefs participate in several events organised by these clubs and societies, such as Awurudu, Christmas, Diwali, Ifthaar, Thai Pongal, and many more exciting events that teaches the values of Sri Lankan age-old culture and traditions.

 

RIC Sports Club

The RIC Sports Club aims to promote the spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship among the students. The club organizes several events such as rugby, basketball, swimming and various other tournaments to enrich the physical and mental well-being of the students.

 

RIC Film Club

The Film Club of RIC serves to create a lively and fun atmosphere among the students with several entertainment projects that encourages creativity. Students collaborate on projects and develop their ideas. The RIC Film Club is the place for any budding film directors, editors, scriptwriters, boom operators, cameramen, actors, and anyone interested in gaining experience with the process of filmmaking!

 

RIC Entrepreneurs Club

The newest member in the RIC Student Clubs and Societies is RIC Entrepreneurs Club. The club aims to cultivate an environment for entrepreneurial minds to thrive to foster innovation at work. As students enhance their college experience through the start-up culture, they tend to become great multi-taskers and risk takers. Our goal is to develop the mindset that helps individuals identify real world problems and find practical solutions that create value.

RIC SOW Challenge

 

The competitions organised by RIC are under the flagship of RIC SOW Challenge, which originates from a simple idea of ‘Spring of Wisdom’ that RIC adheres to. It is the foundation upon which our vision of providing quality education is embedded with, i.e., by helping students to be better versions of themselves through academic pursuits along with extra-curricular activities and intellectually challenging competitions. Our objective is to offer students an overall learning experience enabling them to gain wisdom that they can apply in every realistic aspect of their life.

 

Science & Engineering Competition

A project-based competition aimed at providing opportunity to students to engage in real-life problem-solving in Science & Engineering fields. The students developed their innovative concepts, project models and solutions on the topics related to Science, Engineering and Environmental fields addressing a range of issues from community concerns to topics of global importance.

 

RIC Inter-school Debating Championship

The debating championship is one such event under the umbrella of RIC SOW Challenge, that is dedicated for students to generate effective critical thinking into emerging issues of social, national and international interests and facilitate oratory skills and confident communications among students.

 

Deakin Young Environmentalists’ Challenge

 

Young Environmentalists’ Challenge (YEC) is an international competition that encourages students to come up with ‘Modern and Innovative Engineering Solutions to Environmental Issues at household, community or national level in Sri Lanka that are inadequately addressed. It gives an opportunity to explore the scientific background of those environmental issues and implicate engineering and entrepreneurial solutions in its mitigation. The competition has been organised for the three consecutive year by RIC in collaboration with Deakin University, Australia

 

The Competition provides an invaluable opportunity for the students in the following ways:

 

  • International Exposure of competing with international teams and emerging as global environmental champion
  • Cash prize and commendations from Deakin University, Australia
  • Contribute in teams and opportunity to progress their innovative idea and creative solution in a global platform

 

RIC Advantage Awards

The success our students enjoy in their chosen paths after graduation is deeply rooted in the ‘RIC Advantage’ – a key element that sets apart our graduates from the rest. The ‘RIC Advantage’ is meticulously crafted that enable our graduates to become highly desirable in their post-university life. The first RIC Advantage Awards was held in 2021 that unfolded outstanding students in sports and extra-curricular activities at RIC who have exceptionally demonstrated their talent and capabilities, along with the best clubs and societies of RIC for their active engagement and contribution to RIC community.
