Message from the Founder/Chairman
Gathering words to put them down in this message, I recall the birth of Royal Institute of Colombo (RIC). It was over four decades ago that the thought of a tertiary education institution was born, and it was just very instantaneous. Many junctures in my professional sphere have been unplanned and unexpected, in the most pleasant and constructive way so was the inception of RIC. It was during a visit to the University of London, that my thoughts furthered from London OL study programme to the University of London undergraduate study programmes.
The progression was swift but smooth. More than forty years later, today, Royal Institute of Colombo stands out at the forefront of all tertiary education institutions in Sri Lanka with unparalleled reputation for providing world class study programmes. They range from certificate courses to undergraduate studies, post graduate studies and pathway programmes leading to world class qualifications affiliated with the University of London and Deakin University, Australia. Since 2022 Royal Insitute of Colombo has been awarding Bachelor programmes in International Economics and Finance, Biomedical Sciences, and Education which are approved by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), Sri Lanka and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
RIC envisions a future where students become initiators, not followers, and hence, experiential learning which comprises of community service, sports, mooting, clubs, societies, celebrations, and mandatory
internships is embedded within international and national curricula at RIC. Education imparted at RIC is aimed at producing such innovative, competent, wise and futuristic graduates who command solutions to overcome global challenges, thus making the world a better place to live in.

To our greatest delight as educators, tertiary education is the aspiration of millions of young people across the globe, today, and simultaneously it is a fundamental requirement for employment in every sector and industry which drives development.
Long before Sri Lanka embarked on strengthening tertiary education systems to build the professional expertise necessary to drive public and private sector development, and enacted strategies and policies to serve the youth in terms of opening doors to receive high quality international undergraduate education in the country, Royal Institute of Colombo (RIC) pioneered in delivering top-notch international graduate education programmes to Sri Lankan youth.
