Royal Institute of Colombo is proud to announce their inter-school STEM competition, The Young Environmental Challenge, conducted in collaboration with Deakin University, Australia. YEC is an award-winning international competition that encourages young minds to develop practical engineering solutions for local environmental issues and is conducted annually during the last quarter of each year.

As we strive to foster a culture of sustainability and environmental stewardship, this challenge encourages students to think critically about the pressing environmental concerns facing our communities. By participating, students will not only gain valuable insights into the complexities of environmental issues but also develop practical skills in problem-solving, collaboration, and creative thinking.

To equip students with the necessary skills in problem identification, critical thinking, and problem-solving that will help them confidently take part in this challenge, we are conducting a series of STEM-related workshops each month addressing different environmental issues. Each school will be requested to participate in one of these workshops with a group of 10 students.

The preparation workshop for the month of May is now open for registration. If you are a high school teacher who is interested in sending your students to this workshop, you may register your school along with a list of 10 students from your section. Alternatively, if you are a high school student, you may register a team representing your school.
