The Royal Institute of Colombo (RIC) hosted an engaging seminar titled “Leadership in the Age of AI and Social Media”, conducted by Mr. Harshana D. Perera, Principal of Asian International School. Mr. Perera, an Attorney-at-Law, holds an LLB from the University of Colombo and an MBA from the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) – University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

The seminar explored how artificial intelligence (AI) and social media are reshaping modern leadership, communication, and decision-making. Mr. Perera discussed how these technologies have redefined traditional leadership models, emphasizing the need for leaders to combine technological fluency with emotional intelligence and ethical judgment.

He highlighted that while AI enhances data-driven efficiency, it also risks limiting creativity and independent thought. Similarly, social media amplifies visibility and influence but brings challenges such as misinformation, public scrutiny, and maintaining authenticity in a digital landscape.

Mr. Perera concluded that effective leadership today requires a balance between innovation and human values. Leaders must remain adaptable, transparent, and empathetic to guide their teams successfully in the fast-evolving age of AI and social media.
