On May 20th and 21st, undergraduate students from RIC Deakin’s Electrical & Renewable Energy and Mechatronics Engineering programs embarked on an enriching field visit to the Victoria, Randenigala and Rantambe Hydropower Stations and Dams within the Mahaweli Hydro Complex.
This hands-on experience provided students with a deeper understanding of large-scale electricity generation, offering a closer look at the operational mechanisms of Sri Lankan hydropower network. In addition to exploring the power stations, students also examined the vital role of the associated dams in water storage, regulation and flow management, which are crucial for both electricity generation and sustainable water resource management.
The visit served as a vital bridge between theoretical learning and practical application, giving students valuable insights into the real-world challenges and innovations in the fields of electrical engineering and sustainable energy infrastructure.
