On February 3rd, the RIC moot court buzzed with anticipation as undergraduate law students had the distinct privilege of attending a captivating session on “Criminal Practice in English Courts,” led by the esteemed Mr. Paul Mylvaganam, Barrister-At-Law. The highly anticipated event provided an invaluable opportunity for future legal professionals to gain profound insights into the intricacies of criminal law in the UK and its fascinating distinctions from the Sri Lankan legal system.

Mr. Mylvaganam, a prominent figure in international criminal law, delivered a comprehensive and engaging address. He meticulously outlined the key differences between criminal law in the UK and Sri Lanka, shedding light on the historical influences, procedural nuances, and substantive legal principles that shape both jurisdictions. This comparative analysis was particularly enlightening for the RIC students, offering them a broader perspective on legal frameworks.

Mr. Paul Mylvaganam’s credentials speak volumes about his expertise. He holds a Master’s degree from Sussex University and a degree from the prestigious Pembroke College, Oxford. His illustrious career includes regular engagement by the United Nations and various governments as a technical expert in both Civil and Criminal law. Mr. Mylvaganam has played pivotal roles in International Commissions of Inquiry, advised on Truth and Reconciliation Commissions, and handled numerous high-profile legal cases, solidifying his reputation as a leading authority in the field.
